President Goodluck Jonathan on Wednesday expressed concern over the growing prevalence of indiscipline amongst Nigerian workers.
The President, who expressed the concern while inaugurating the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) in Abuja, said indiscipline was one of the major challenges facing the country.
“One of the greatest problems we have as a nation is the issue of indiscipline everywhere, from the least office to the highest.
“In most cases, people don’t take their responsibilities seriously. It is your duty to make sure that people are disciplined where they need to be disciplined.
‘’And one thing philosophers will say is that in a system where equals are treated unequally or where unequal are treated equally, that system is corrupt.
“So, make sure that equals are treated equally and unequals are treated unequally.“
He, therefore, called on members of the Civil Service Commission, NASC, and the Local Government Service Commission to ensure that workers strictly adhered to the rule and regulations of the civil service.
Jonathan commended members of the reconstituted commission for accepting to serve the nation and urged them to inculcate the virtue of discipline among the staff of the commission.
The President congratulated them for their appointment and narrated the key responsibilities of the commission to include appointments of persons to all offices of the National Assembly, promotion of staff, and disciplinary matters.
Speaking on behalf of members of the commission, the Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Fika, pledged that the organisation would discharge its assignments diligently.
He said that the commission would address the problem of indiscipline among workers to enhance service delivery.
