President Bola Tinubu has directed all Ministries and Extra-Ministerial Departments (MDAs) to digitise workflows and transition to paperless governance, aiming to improve efficiency, transparency, and citizen-centred service delivery.

The directive was issued during the opening of the International Civil Service Conference 2026 in Abuja, represented by Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume. Tinubu emphasized that the era of manual processes must give way to data-driven decision-making and rapid, accountable public service.

“The theme of this year’s conference, ‘Reforms, Resilience and Results,’ reflects our shift from policy aspirations to measurable impact,” Tinubu said. “Our public service is now faster, smarter, and more responsive to citizens’ needs.”

According to the president, 38 ministries and extra-ministerial departments are already operating on secure, end-to-end electronic workflow systems, showcasing Nigeria’s commitment to innovation, investment, and inclusive growth.

Tinubu highlighted ongoing initiatives, including the Personnel Audit and Skills Gap Analysis launched in 2025, aimed at strengthening competencies and ensuring personnel are deployed to roles matching their digital skills. He also pointed to Project BRIDGE (Building Resilient Digital Infrastructure for Growth), designed to support jobs, innovation, and digital connectivity across Nigeria.

Commending Mrs. Didi Esther Walson-Jack, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Tinubu noted the successful implementation of the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Integration of tools like Service-Wise GPT, demonstrating disciplined execution and visionary leadership.

The president encouraged conference participants to focus on institutionalising reforms, enhancing accountability, and leveraging technology to improve service delivery beyond administrative processes. “The world is watching Nigeria, and citizens expect results. Our responsibility is to build a Civil Service that is efficient, ethical, innovative, and committed to national development,” he said.

The International Civil Service Conference 2026 brings together dignitaries from across Africa and beyond to discuss strategies for strengthening public service and ensuring reforms deliver tangible outcomes.
