Nigerian music sensations Tems, Wizkid, Burna Boy, and Asake have received nominations for the 2026 BET Awards, highlighting the growing global influence of Nigerian artists.
The official nomination list, published on BET.com, recognized the artists across several international music categories. Tems emerged as one of the most nominated African performers, earning three nods: Best Female R&B/Pop Artist, the BET Her Award for her song “First,” and a Viewers’ Choice nomination for “Raindance,” her collaboration with Dave.
Asake and Wizkid received a joint nomination in the Best Group category, reflecting the success of their recent collaboration on the international music scene. Burna Boy was nominated in the Best Collaboration category for “WGFT,” his feature on Gunna’s track.
These nominations reinforce the impact of Nigerian music on the global stage. Wizkid remains one of Africa’s most decorated BET winners, while Burna Boy has consistently excelled in international categories. Past award recipients include Davido, Tems, 2Baba, D’banj, Ice Prince, and, most recently, Ayra Starr, who won Best International Act in 2025.
Nigerian talent is also recognized in acting categories. Ayo Edebiri and Cynthia Erivo earned nominations for Best Actress, while Damson Idris was nominated for Best Actor.
The 2026 BET Awards will take place on June 28 at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles, with comedian Druski set to become the youngest host in the history of the awards. The event is expected to celebrate leading entertainers, musicians, and industry figures who contribute to Black culture across music, film, literature, philanthropy, and more.
