Odemwingie: Nigeria will upset Spain

OdemwingieOut of favour Super Eagles striker, Osaze Odemwingie, has declared that the Nigerian team have all it takes to upset Spain in Sunday’s FIFA Confederations Cup.

“Spain who are first in group B won’t play with their first team and this could be Nigeria’s chance. And if Tahiti defend well against Uruguay, Nigeria would get a chance to advance,” Odemwingie said.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles need a win against the reigning world and European champions to enhance their chances of progressing to the last four of the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup and Odemwingie believes the task can be achieved.

Spain currently heads group B with six points and a goals difference of plus eleven; a scenario which Odemwingie sees working in favour of the Super Eagles.

The 31-year-old who has 55 appearances with the Super Eagles under his belt also revealed that he would relish the prospect of playing for Nigeria again.

“I would like to play international football again of course, if my country calls on me I will go and help them, I can never say no to my country,” Odemwingie revealed.

Odemwingie regularly courted controversy in the 2012/13 season as he tried to force a move away from Barclays English Premier League club, West Bromwich Albion.

He made only two starts for the club after the January transfer window closed and has been tipped to leave the Hawthorns this summer.

“Where you might see me I don’t know, but it looks more like I might leave West Brom, my representatives are in talks with West Brom and most important is I find a manager who will give me playing time, any club that will offer me playing time is what I am looking for.

“I have regrets of what happened there because I have a lot of respect for West Brom, I will always have them in my heart. I thought the situation would be done a lot easier than the way they did it. I was not playing in the position that I wanted to and an opportunity came up to play in my favourite position again,” Odemwingie said.
