Oduamadi: I am fit to play against Spain

OduamadiSuper Eagles top striker, Nnamdi Oduamadi, has stated that he has not been told by the Eagles chief coach, Stephen Keshi if he would start against Spain in Sunday’s cracker or not.

“I don’t know if I will play against Spain, I mean in the starting line-up. I feel much better now than I did on Thursday but it’s up to the coach (Stephen Keshi) and the medical staff to decide if I will play,” Oduamadi said.

Nigeria’s 1-2 defeat to Uruguay on Thursday means the African champions need an outright win from the game against Spain on Sunday if they are to progress to the last four and Oduamadi believes the Super Eagles can claim a surprise scalp at the Estadio Castelao in Fortaleza.

“People are saying we don’t have a chance but I think that’s unfair. This is football and anything can happen. Spain is the best side in the world right now but I know what Nigeria can do on a good day.

“Of course, we can beat them but to do that, we must be ready to play the games of our lives and I am sure we will do that come Sunday,” he said.

Spain has not lost in their last 27 matches.

Oduamadi, Nigeria’s top scorer in the competition, limped off injured during Thursday’s 1-2 defeat to South American champions, Uruguay after he was caught by a late tackle in the 30th minute by midfielder, Egidio Arevalo Rios.

The Varese man was subsequently replaced by Krybas’ Michael Babatunde on the stroke of half time.

With some people ruling the striker out of the tournament, Oduamadi has said he can still play in the competition.
