The All Progressives Congress in Lagos State has taken two major political steps ahead of the 2027 elections, purchasing a presidential nomination form for Bola Ahmed Tinubu while endorsing Deputy Governor Olufemi Hamzat as its consensus governorship aspirant.
The decisions were announced following a high-level meeting of the Governance Advisory Council (GAC).
Speaking after the meeting, GAC leader Tajudeen Olusi said the gathering brought together over 20 senior party leaders.
He described the discussions as comprehensive, focusing primarily on preparations for the 2027 general elections in Lagos State.
Olusi explained that while the APC constitution guarantees open primaries, it also allows consensus arrangements to strengthen internal cohesion.
He said the council unanimously agreed on Hamzat as its preferred candidate for the governorship race.
According to Olusi, party stakeholders have pledged to collectively finance Hamzat’s nomination form.
He noted that several leaders have volunteered personal contributions, reflecting strong backing for his candidacy.
Despite the endorsement, the GAC leader emphasized that the party will still conduct its official primaries in accordance with its guidelines.
He said the consensus decision is intended to guide the party’s direction rather than override established procedures.
Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu confirmed that the Lagos APC has purchased the presidential nomination form for President Tinubu.
He described the move as a demonstration of confidence in the administration’s policies and the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The meeting featured several prominent APC leaders, including: Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire, Musiliu Obanikoro, Ganiyu Solomon, Tokunbo Abiru, Anthony Adefuye, James Odunbaku
