A faction of the African Democratic Congress aligned with David Mark has called on the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, to expedite the delivery of judgment in the party’s ongoing leadership dispute.
The request was formally communicated through a letter submitted to the CJN’s office on Tuesday.
The appeal, signed by the faction’s lead counsel Shuaibu Aruwa, stressed the urgency of resolving the case.
The group warned that further delay could prevent the party from participating in the 2027 general elections.
According to the letter, the party risks missing key deadlines set under Nigeria’s electoral framework if the court does not issue its ruling promptly.
The faction stated that the judgment is crucial for determining its eligibility to present candidates in the upcoming elections.
The Supreme Court of Nigeria had earlier reserved its decision in the matter on April 22 after hearing arguments from all parties.
A five-member panel led by Justice Lawal Garba concluded proceedings and indicated that a judgment date would be announced later.
The Mark-led faction expressed concern that delays could lead to its exclusion from the electoral process.
It argued that failure to secure a timely judgment would hinder the party’s ability to meet statutory requirements for contesting elections.
The faction also noted that prolonged uncertainty could affect the political rights of its members nationwide.
It warned that millions of supporters could be disenfranchised if the party is unable to participate in the elections.
The group urged the CJN to ensure that the judgment is delivered within a short timeframe, emphasizing that delays in such matters could undermine justice.
It reiterated that timely judicial intervention is critical in politically sensitive cases.
