The Governance Advisory Council (GAC) in Lagos State has endorsed Deputy Governor Olufemi Hamzat as its preferred consensus candidate for the 2027 governorship election.

The announcement followed a closed-door meeting attended by senior members of the All Progressives Congress.

The GAC leader, Tajudeen Olusi, said the decision was reached after extensive consultations among party leaders.

He described the meeting as thorough, noting that discussions focused largely on early preparations for the 2027 elections in Lagos State.

Olusi explained that while the APC constitution guarantees open primaries for aspirants, it also allows consensus arrangements to promote cohesion within the party.

According to him, members unanimously agreed on Hamzat as their preferred candidate.

He further disclosed that key stakeholders have committed to funding Hamzat’s nomination form, describing it as a collective show of support.

The leaders, many of whom are retired political figures, reportedly agreed to contribute personally toward the process.

Despite the endorsement, Olusi clarified that the party would still conduct its official primary election in line with its constitutional provisions.

He noted that the consensus decision is intended to guide party direction, not replace due process.

Speaking at the event, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu confirmed that the state chapter of the APC has also purchased the presidential nomination form for Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

He described the move as a vote of confidence in the administration’s policies and long-term agenda.

The meeting was attended by several influential political figures, including: Adejoke Orelope-Adefulire,  Musiliu Obanikoro, Ganiyu Solomon,  Tokunbo Abiru,  Anthony Adefuye
