Supreme Court: Wike is Rivers governor

Governor Nyesom Wike of Rivers State breathed a sigh of relief on Wednesday after the Supreme Court affirmed his election as the Chief Security Officer of the South-South state.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Wike, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, winner of the April 11 governorship election.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Dakuku Peterside, had gone to the tribunal to challenge Wike’s victory and won.
The Appeal Court also sacked Wike and ordered a fresh election.
But the apex court on Wednesday upturned the earlier judgements, affirming Wike as the duly-elected governor of the state created in 1967.
The seven-man panel declared that it would give reasons for the judgement on February 12.
