The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Monday, declared Senator Gershom Bassey of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) winner of the Cross River South Senatorial District election.
Bassey is the incumbent senator representing Cross River South Senatorial District in the Senate.
The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. James Epoke, said that Bassey scored 77,478 votes to defeat his closest rival, Sen. Bassey Otu of the All Progressive Congress who got 63,250 votes.
Hajiya Aisha Dahiru of APC has won Adamawa Central Senatorial seat, making her the only female Senator-elect so far in Northern Nigeria.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Buba Jakusko, said Dahiru scored 188,526 votes to beat Mr Murtala Chibado of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) who scored 96,530 votes.
Jakusko said Mr Mustafa Madawaki of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) came third with 36,030 votes.
The Adamawa Central Senatorial zone is made up of Yola South, Yola North as well as Girei, Fufore, Song and Gombi Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state.
Abdurrauf Modibbo of APC won Yola-North/Yola-South/Girei Federal Constituency seat with 80,453 votes, beating Mr Jafar Ribadu of PDP who scored 48,476 votes.
Mr Mustafa Ibrahim of ADC came third with 29,222 votes.
INEC also declared Senator Theodore Orji of PDP the winner of Abia Central Senatorial election.
Orji polled 55,461 votes to defeat his closest rival, Sen. Nkechi Nwaogu of the All Progressives Congress (APC), who polled 29,860 votes.
Mr Chidi Ajaegbu, the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), garnered 19,534 votes, while Chief Chidi Nwosu of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) scored 753 votes.
Announcing the results on Monday in Umuahia, the Returning Officer for the senatorial district, Prof. Yusuf Omeh, said that Orji emerged the winner, having scored the highest number of votes cast.
Omeh said that there were 106,821 valid votes out of the114, 069 votes cast during the election.
Also, INEC has declared Chief Sam Onuigbo the winner for the Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency poll.
Onuigbo, who ran on the platform of PDP for second tenure, polled 30, 669 to defeat his closest rival, Mr Martin Apugo of the APC who polled 23,279 votes.
Mr Uba Macdold of APGA scored 10,312 votes, while Mr Charles Nzechi of Labour Party (LP) scored 559 votes.
Prof. Georgina Ugwuanyi, the Returning Officer for the constituency, who announced the result in Umuahia, declared Onuigbo the winner.
He said that 12,232 votes were valid out of the 13,192 votes cast at the election.
With the result, Onuigbo has emerged the first person to be re-elected to the House of Representatives for a second tenure in the constituency.
Meanwhile, APC agent for the House of Representatives election, Mr Joshua Ogbonna, declined to countersign the result sheet, alleging irregularities in the result.
In Lagos, INEC declared Senator Oluremi Tinubu winner in Lagos Central Senatorial District.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Oyeyemi Oyedola of the University of Lagos, said Mrs Tinubu of APC polled 131,735.
She defeated Onitiri David of PDP who scored 89,107 votes.
“I, Professor Oyeyemi Elijah Oyedola, hereby certify that as the retuning officer, Lagos Central Senatorial District with the election held on 23 of February, 2019 that the election was contested among 14 candidates.
“I declare that Tinubu Oluremi Shade of the APC has satisfied the requirements of law and scoring the highest number of votes, hereby declared the winner and returned elected having polled 131,735 votes,” he said.
The INEC Electoral Officer in Lagos Island, Mr Sodiq Abubakar, lauded the security agents for their support towards ensuring free, fair and credible election.
Abubakar said that no causality was recorded during the period of the election and urged the stakeholders to keep it up.
The election was conducted in five local government areas namely Lagos Island, Eti-Osa, Apapa, Surulere and Mainland.
INEC also declared APC’s Danladi Sankara as winner for Jigawa North West senatorial district.
The Returning Officer for the election, Prof. Usman Haruna of the Federal University Dutse, who announced the result in Gumel on Monday, said that Sankara scored 286,655 votes to defeat his PDP opponent, Alhaji Nasiru Roni, who scored 120,314 votes.
Haruna said that Alhaji Muhammad Alkali candidate for the Social Democratic Party (SDP) scored 29,906 votes.
He stated that the election was conducted in a transparent manner in line with the INEC rules and guidelines.
Sankara had once represented the district on the platform of the PDP.
He later lost to serving Senator Abdullahi Muhammad of the APC.
Sankara later defected to the APC and secured the ticket to re-contest the position.
Also, INEC declared Mrs Akon Eyakenyi of PDP as the winner of Akwa Ibom South Senatorial seat.
Announcing the results, the Returning Officer, Prof. Nyaudoh Ndaeyo, of University of Uyo, said Eyakenyi polled 122,412 votes, to defeat her closest rival Senator Nelson Effiong of APC who polled 44,053 votes.
Ndaeyo commended INEC for conducting free, fair and credible elections, saying that the election was well organised.
“The elections was well organised, but in bringing results from the local government areas, it took a little time for us to collate the results,” Ndaeyo said.
He alleged that some politicians tried to thwart the efforts of the commission.
Meanwhile, the APC, in a statement called for the cancellation of the results.
The statement was signed by Mr Iniobong Okopido, and Mr Augustine Ekanem, Chairman and Secretary, respectively.
They alleged that INEC failed to comply with the provisions of Electoral Act 2010 (as Amended).
Mr Yakubu Oseni of APC was declared winner of the Kogi Central Senatorial election.
The Returning Officer, Prof. Patrick Audu, who announced the results on Monday at Okene, said Oseni polled 76, 120 to defeat other contestants.
He said that Miss Natasha Akpoti of the Social Democratic Party scored 48,326 to come second in the election while the incumbent Senator Ahmed Ogembe of PDP polled 19, 359 to come third.
Senator Danjuma La’ah (PDP-Kaduna South) won the election in Kaduna South Senatorial District.
Mr Suleiman Yashim, INEC Returning Officer who announced the result on Monday in Kafanchan, said La’ah of the PDP scored a total 268,923 to defeat Deputy Governor Barnabas Bala Bantex of the APC, who scored 133,287 votes.
Other runner-up candidates included Rijo Shekari of the SDP who scored 9,609 votes and Benedict Kura of ADC who scored 2,741 with eight others.
