In its bid to contribute to humanity, the Rotary Club of Ikeja has empowered six artisans, Nigerian Airforce Officers Wives’ Association (NAFOWA) including a disable with sewing machines and shoe making equipment.
The President of Rotary Club, Ikeja, Rotarian Olaitan Ojuroye, while speaking at the maiden visit by the District Governor, Rotarian Patrick Ikheloa, to the Club, stated that the empowerment of the less privileges remains the focus of the club, saying that the club will continue to change lives and improve communities in the state.
Ojuroye explained: “We are encouraged to focus on those who are really in need, those members of the communities in our immediate environment who could benefit from a little assistance, a little support, a smile and championship”.
She added that through the Rotary Foundation, members have supported thousands of projects to provide clean water, fight disease, promote peace, provide basic education and grow local economies.
The President stressed that she will make sure that every member and people in every community know about the vital work of Rotary and its foundation, saying that the club would increase its contribution to the foundation by making a special donation of $26.5%.
“We plan to have a special fundraiser in our community to support PolioPlus. This will bring together friends of Rotary and our communities in a common purpose”, said Rotarian Ojuroye
In the event which was attended by members of the Rotary across District 9110 Nigeria, the District Governor, Rotarian Ikhelo, eulogized the members of Rotary Club Ikeja for their tremendous performance in executing humanitarian projects in the District.
Rotarian Ikhelo explained that the club needs to intensify its effort in increasing its membership, saying that the club has performed excellently well in executing humanitarian projects.
He added that he is ready to learn from the club and be guided, appealing to the past Presidents to assist the club by bringing in new members to the club
The District Governor stressed that the club should intensify its financial contributions and commitment to Rotary Foundation, saying that the club should revive its rotaract and interact clubs so that they could level up to Rotary few year time.
Presenting the gifts to the recipients, the District Governor advised them to use their equipment judiciously to promote their welfare, saying that Rotary is committed to eradicating poverty in their own little way among the citizens.
He urged the recipients to continue to pray for the club so that they could be strengthened to do more for the less privileged in the society.
While expressing appreciation, one of the recipients, Amaechi John, eulogized Rotary Club for the shoe making equipment bestowed on him, saying that the club has solved equipment problem facing his job.
John, who is a disable, explained that with the equipment received from Rotary, his job would experience growth.
He stated that there is ability in disability, advising his contemporaries to seek for skill acquisition than street begging.
Mrs Admas Aina, a beneficiary of a pepper grinding machine in Agindingbi community expressed her appreciation with tears on her face to all members of the club by putting smile in her face and her family at large.
Mrs Taiwo Abayomi, a recipient of a sewing machine in Agindigbi community articulated the fact that Rotary club of Ikeja had contributed and blessed her life with the machine which will enhanced her business.
Also, the representative of NAFOWA, Flight Lieutenant Temitope Akinduyite stressed that the equipment would go a long way in empowering the youths most especially those in vocational school, stressing that the gifts will be given to the best students in the vocational school.
He added that the partnership between NAFOWA and Rotary Club Ikeja has built good relationship and helped the students to believe that if they performed well in their studies they would be compensated by the club.
