Nigeria’s power generation capacity has increased from 3,657 megawatts to 4,600 megawatts due to the resumption of operation at the Egbin Power Station early this week.
This was disclosed on Friday in Lagos by the Director, Public Affairs, Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), Mrs Seun Olagunju.
She said that the power generation started increasing early this week and stood at 4, 600 megawatts as at October 16.
“Power generation has increased from 3,657 megawatts to 4, 600 megawatts following resumption of operations at the Egbin Power Plant,’’ she said.
The director said Egbin Power Station had bounced back to 813 megawatts one week after it recorded zero generation due to workers’ crisis at the plant.
A senior manager at the plant, who preferred anonymity, said the station’s output, which now stood at 813 megawatts, would hit 1,000 megawatts by next week.
According to the source, the management had embarked on repairs of some “little damages’’ at the plant to up the generation to 1, 000 megawatts.
Egbin Power Plant, the nation’s biggest power generating outfit, had on October 4 lost 1,100 megawatts.
The development followed an alleged sabotage by one of the former employees of the defunct Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN), who threw an object into the power plant causing it to trip-off.

The defunct PHCN workers claimed that the management of Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) had brought in some people to evict them from Egbin Housing Estate in the premises of the plant.
Meanwhile, Lagos residents have started experiencing significant increase in power supply following the resolution of the Egbin workers’ crisis.
