Police to build 6,000 housing units for junior officers

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Mr Solomon Arase, has mandated the Works Department of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) to build 6,000 units of modern houses for the rank and file personnel.
Arase gave the mandate at a one-day workshop held for officers of the works department in Abuja.
The IGP, however, said that corrupt officers would not benefit from the project.
He said 500 units of the houses should be located in each of the 12 Police Zonal Commands across the nation.
Arase, who mandated the department to complete the houses in six months, said it was part of efforts to improve the welfare of junior officers
He decried shoddy projects carried out in the past for the force by some building developers at high costs.
He said the new initiative should be driven by the relevant professional expertise in the force.
“Upon completion, a unit of two bedroom flat will be delivered to officers at a cost not above N4 million as materials will be sourced directly from manufacturers.
“Officers will be able to acquire the houses through NPF Mortgage Bank Plc,’’ he said.
He explained that the bank in collaboration with National Housing Fund would finance the project with the investment department of the force coordinating it.
