The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has commenced the screening process for its presidential and governorship aspirants ahead of the 2027 general elections. The screening, led by the Abdulraman Mohammed-led National Working Committee (NWC), began on Thursday at the party’s National Secretariat Annex, Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja.

According to a statement issued by the PDP’s National Director of Publicity, Chinwe Nnorom, on behalf of the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, the governorship aspirants were screened at noon, while the presidential aspirants’ screening started at 2 p.m. The presidential aspirants’ screening committee is chaired by former Governor of Abia State, Okezie Ikpeazu, with Hassan Sokodobo serving as Secretary. Other members of the committee include Alhaji Abba Isawa, Sen. George Sekibo, Sodipo Semiu, Mrs. Chinelo Chidebelu, Nasiru Mohammed, Sen. Zainab Kure, and Lindsey Sora.

For the governorship aspirants, the screening committee is headed by Ahmed Makarfi, a former Governor of Kaduna State, with George Ariolu serving as Secretary. Other committee members are Dr. Ibrahim Umar, Prof. Aisha Madawaki, Tajudeen Yusuf, Dr. Abdulganiyu Oloyin, Babangida Modibbo, Alhaji Buba Biri, Olaniyi Ogungbuji, Mike Ahumibe, Gabriel Igboko, Pastor Tony Effiong, and Mrs. Precious Ojelabi.

In related news, the Tanimu Turaki-led Interim National Working Committee of the PDP had, on Wednesday, extended the deadline for the purchase of nomination and expression of interest forms for all aspirants in the 2027 elections. The forms can now be purchased until May 15, 2026, with completed forms due for submission by May 18, 2026. Screening of all aspirants will take place on May 19, 2026.

The decision to extend the deadline followed appeals from various stakeholders and aspirants across the country. However, the interim NWC clarified that aspirants vying for National and State Assembly positions will be screened in their respective states, while governorship and presidential aspirants will undergo screening in Abuja.

The NWC also reaffirmed that all previously announced activities, such as the ongoing sale of forms, remain unchanged.
