Oyo APC Rejects Impeachment Plot Claims, Accuses Makinde of Distraction

The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State has rejected reports of an alleged impeachment plot against Governor Seyi Makinde, describing the claims as a calculated political distraction.

In a statement issued in Ibadan, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Olawale Sadare, said the narrative was fabricated to mislead the public and gain sympathy for the governor.

According to the APC, the impeachment story lacks credibility and appears designed to shift attention from pressing political issues in the state.

Sadare noted that some members of the Oyo State House of Assembly, believed to be aligned with the governor, had earlier denied involvement in any such plot.

The lawmakers reportedly dismissed allegations that prominent figures, including President Bola Tinubu, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, and former First Lady Florence Ajimobi, were behind the supposed move.

The APC criticised the inclusion of these personalities, describing the claims as baseless and politically motivated.

The party further argued that if the Assembly had been fully performing its constitutional duties, the governor would have faced scrutiny over alleged misconduct since assuming office.

Sadare alleged that the impeachment narrative was orchestrated to influence public perception and protect the governor’s political image.

He also referenced claims linking the controversy to recent political tensions, including remarks allegedly made by former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose.

The APC insisted that no external individuals were pushing for the governor’s removal, maintaining that the issue had been exaggerated for political advantage.

The party accused the Makinde administration of various irregularities, including alleged financial mismanagement, contract inflation, and misuse of public funds.

It stated that such allegations, if proven, could constitute grounds for impeachment under constitutional provisions.

The APC maintained that public awareness of these issues would ultimately shape political outcomes in the state.

The development adds to growing political tension in Oyo State, as parties continue to exchange accusations ahead of future electoral contests.
