Olubadan Allows Oyo Politicians to Use His Name, Says Programmes Decide Outcomes

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has stated that political aspirants in Oyo State are free to invoke his name in support of their campaigns.

Speaking during the Eid-el-Kabir celebration at his private residence on Wednesday, the traditional ruler emphasized his role as a father figure to all politicians, regardless of party affiliation.

“All aspirants are my children. They are welcome to use my name to promote their ambitions. My current role does not allow me to deny anyone,” Oba Ladoja said.

However, the Olubadan made it clear that electoral success would depend on the content and appeal of the aspirants’ programmes, not merely on his name.

“The key factor is their programme for the people. How they communicate their ideas will determine their journey and ultimate victory,” he noted.

Addressing the rising insecurity in Oyo State, Oba Ladoja expressed confidence that the government is actively responding to the situation. He urged residents to exercise caution, especially when sharing personal information online, and stressed the need for both state and federal cooperation, alongside international support.

The traditional ruler also addressed ongoing and disputes in Ibadan, noting that at least two mogajis have been suspended for involvement in land grabbing.

“My campaign against land grabbing does not infringe on the rights of family heads. However, every land claim must be supported by verifiable ownership,” he clarified.

Oba Ladoja highlighted efforts to resolve long-standing land disputes, some spanning over two decades, and warned that any community leader found guilty of misconduct would face sanctions.

“The palace is committed to ending land grabbing, regardless of how long it has persisted,” he concluded.
