In a major political development in Delta State, veteran politician Sen. Ovie Omo‑Agege has formally quit the All Progressives Congress (APC), citing ongoing turmoil within the state chapter of the ruling party.
Omo‑Agege’s departure was confirmed in a resignation letter dated May 22, which he addressed to the leadership of Orogun Ward 2 in Ughelli North Local Government Area.
According to a statement shared by his media aide, Mr. Sunday Areh, the former Deputy Senate President made the decision after consulting closely with his supporters and political allies.
The senator, who previously sought the APC nomination for the Delta Central Senatorial District, lost his bid to Sen. Ede Dafinone in party primaries.
Omo‑Agege indicated that recent internal challenges within Delta APC played a significant role in his choice to exit the party.
He said remaining in the party would limit his ability to effectively champion the interests of his constituents and pursue broader development goals.
The resigned lawmaker thanked the APC for the opportunity to serve as Deputy President during the 9th National Assembly.
He also requested that his name be expunged from all APC membership databases and communication networks.
Omo‑Agege reiterated his commitment to driving progress for Delta Central and Nigeria, adding that he will continue his political work outside the APC framework.
