The Media Rights Agenda (MRA) has announced Ms. Blessing Oladunjoye and Mr. Remmy Nweke as winners of the inaugural Dr. Goodluck Jonathan Freedom of Information (FOI) Awards.

The awards recognize exceptional contributions to the use of the Freedom of Information Act 2011 in promoting transparency, accountability, and investigative journalism in Nigeria.

According to Mr. Edetaen Ojo, MRA Executive Director, Oladunjoye won for submitting the highest number of FOI requests between May 28, 2011, and December 31, 2025, including strategic litigation to ensure compliance by public institutions.

Nweke, Group Executive Editor of ITREALMS Media Group, received the award for his advocacy and public awareness efforts in advancing the FOI Act.

The awards coincide with the 15th anniversary of the FOI Act, signed into law by former President Goodluck Jonathan, highlighting journalists’ role in promoting public interest reporting despite institutional secrecy.

Ojo commended the winners for their professionalism, courage, and commitment, urging more media organizations and journalists to utilize the Act to strengthen transparency and democratic governance.

The winners are set to receive plaques, certificates, and prizes at a ceremony to be announced at a later date.
