Ambassador Blessing Fubara, younger brother of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has officially entered the 2027 Rivers State governorship race under the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC).
In a statement released on Thursday, the aspirant pledged to revive the state’s economic fortunes and restore political stability. He described himself as a capable and energetic candidate ready to “restore the soul of Rivers.”
Highlighting the challenges facing the state, Fubara noted the “impoverishment of the people, loss of investment, and diminishing opportunities” as key reasons for his candidacy.
“Rivers today appears distressed and shortchanged, but we are not a conquered people,” he said, appealing to voters across all 23 local government areas to turn out and “reclaim the soul of Rivers.”
Fubara committed to serving a single four-year term, completing the eight-year tenure for the **Rivers South-East Senatorial District** under the state’s political rotation system. He warned that altering the rotation would set a dangerous precedent.
