Match disruption: 3SC files petition against Sunshine Stars

Shooting Stars FC of Ibadan (3SC) on Tuesday said it had petitioned the League Management Committee over the disruption of its match with Sunshine Stars of Akure last Saturday.

Administrative Officer of 3SC, Ademola Alabi, has confirmed the development.

The match, held at the Akure Township Stadium, was disrupted midway into the second half.

The match ended 2-1 in favour of Sunshine Stars.

“It is now an official issue. We filed our protest this morning.

“From the moment we stepped on the stadium, Sunshine Stars’ fans displayed their aggressiveness to us.

“They made verbal threats, the intimidation was obvious. When we scored our goal, they challenged the match official,’’ Alabi alleged.

He said that the game was eventually abandoned after the fans attacked the match officials, 3SC cameraman and Oyo State Commissioner for Sports, Adedapo Lam-Adesina.

However, Mike Idoko, the Co-coordinator, Ondo State Football Agency, said that the allegations were baseless.

Idoko said the fact that Sunshine Stars FC was leading before the match was stopped, made the allegations fictitious.

“We have played two matches at home against Bayelsa United and Warri Wolves and drew, but nothing happened.

“Why then should we disrupt a match when we were obviously leading?” Idoko asked.
