The Lagos State Police Command has taken a driver into custody following a fatal accident that claimed the life of a Lagos State University (LASU) student in the Igando area of Lagos.

The incident was confirmed in a statement shared via the command’s official X (formerly Twitter) account, @LagosPoliceNG, on Saturday night.

According to the police, officers from the Igando Division responded swiftly after receiving reports of the crash.

The victim, identified as a female student, was pronounced dead at the scene, and her remains have been deposited in a mortuary.

Authorities disclosed that the driver involved in the incident has been detained, while the vehicle linked to the accident has been seized as part of ongoing investigations.

The case has since been transferred to the Area Command for further inquiry and possible prosecution.

The police assured residents that due process would be followed and that anyone found culpable would be held accountable under the law.

They also appealed to the public to remain calm as investigations continue.

The development comes amid rising tension among students, following reports that the victim, identified simply as Azeezat, was knocked down by a vehicle around 7:00 p.m. on Saturday.

A video circulating on social media shows students protesting at the Area M Police Division, alleging attempts by some officers to shield the driver.

The students have called for transparency and justice, demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The case has sparked wider concerns over road safety in Lagos and accountability in handling accident-related fatalities.
