LIRS Announces Final Extension for 2026 Income Tax Filing

The Lagos State Internal Revenue Service (LIRS) has announced a new deadline of April 21, 2026, for the submission of individual annual income tax returns.

The extension was confirmed in a statement issued by the Executive Chairman of LIRS, Ayodele Subair, through the agency’s Head of Corporate Communications, Monsurat Amasa-Oyelude.

According to Subair, the decision follows a surge in activity on the agency’s electronic tax filing platform,  as many taxpayers rushed to meet the previous deadline.

He explained that the extension is intended to ease the process and allow taxpayers sufficient time to complete and submit their returns accurately.

“The move is in response to the high level of compliance and is designed to ensure convenience while maintaining the integrity of submissions,” he stated.

Subair reiterated that filing annual income tax returns is a legal obligation for all eligible individuals and urged residents to take advantage of what he described as a final extension.

He also emphasized that all tax returns must be submitted exclusively through the official LIRS eTax platform, which remains the only approved channel.

Taxpayers experiencing difficulties were advised to seek assistance at any LIRS office or through the agency’s official support channels.

The extension is expected to improve compliance rates while reducing pressure on the digital system during peak filing periods.
