Police Reopen PDP Secretariat as Rival Factions Clash Over Control

The Nigeria Police Force has reopened the national headquarters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abuja, reigniting tensions between rival factions within the party.

The facility, located at Wadata Plaza, was unsealed alongside the party’s presidential campaign office, Legacy House in Maitama, following what authorities described as compliance with court directives.

A statement issued by the faction led by Abdulrahman Mohammed, through its National Publicity Secretary, Jungudo Mohammed, confirmed the development.

According to the group, control of the secretariat has been handed over to its **National Working Committee, with Senator Samuel Anyanwu recognised as National Secretary.

The faction commended the police for what it described as professionalism and adherence to legal procedures in executing the court orders.

“This step reflects respect for due process and constitutional governance,” the statement said.

The group also warned against any actions capable of disrupting activities at the secretariat, noting that security agencies are on alert to enforce law and order.

It further called on aggrieved members to embrace reconciliation and work towards unity within the party.

The faction acknowledged the support of key stakeholders, including Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, describing his role as significant.

However, a rival faction led by Tanimu Turaki has rejected the move, describing the unsealing as unlawful and premature.

Spokesperson for the group, Ini Ememobong, argued that the court decision referenced had already been appealed, making any enforcement inappropriate at this stage.

He warned that the action could undermine ongoing legal proceedings at the Court of Appeal.

Ememobong also raised concerns about possible political interference, alleging that the police’s action may not have been neutral.

He urged party members to remain calm while legal steps are taken to challenge the development.

The PDP secretariat had been sealed in November 2025 after violent clashes between opposing factions at the party’s headquarters.

The latest development underscores the deepening internal crisis within one of Nigeria’s major political parties, as leadership disputes continue to divide members.
