The Lagos State Government has released detailed guidelines for the reinstated monthly environmental sanitation exercise, set to resume this Saturday across the state.

Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the modalities in Lagos, following the earlier symbolic launch of the initiative along the Mushin-Agege Motor Road corridor.

According to Wahab, the sanitation exercise will take place on the last Saturday of every month between 6:30 a.m. and 8:30 a.m.

During this period, movement will be restricted across the state to allow residents to clean their homes, surroundings, and drainage systems.

He explained that enforcement teams from agencies including the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA), Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA), Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), and local government sanitation officers will oversee compliance.

The commissioner stated that inspections would be conducted both during and after the exercise, with penalties applied to individuals who fail to comply with environmental laws.

He noted that LAWMA trucks will be deployed to collect waste generated during the sanitation period to ensure proper disposal.

Wahab also revealed that the state government will introduce incentives, including awards for the cleanest Local Government Area, Local Council Development Area, and street, to promote participation.

He urged residents to take the exercise seriously and support efforts aimed at improving cleanliness, public health, and environmental sustainability in Lagos.
