Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has instructed all political appointees intending to participate in the 2027 general elections to step down from their positions.
The directive was issued through a statement released by the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, in Kano.
According to the statement, affected officials are required to resign on or before March 31, 2026, in compliance with provisions of the Electoral Act 2026.
The order was formalised in a circular signed by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Umar Ibrahim, and distributed to all government agencies.
The circular cited Section 88(1) of the Electoral Act, which regulates the involvement of public office holders in partisan political activities.
It explained that the directive aims to ensure fairness, neutrality, and accountability within the public service ahead of the elections.
The government emphasised that the move is intended to create a level playing field for all aspirants while maintaining the integrity of governance.
All Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) have been directed to ensure widespread awareness of the circular and strict compliance by affected officials.
