FIFA Acting President, Issa Hayatou, has arrived at the headquarters of the ruling football body as he takes over the duties of suspended Joseph Blatter.
In a statement on Thursday in Zurich, Switzerland, FIFA said Hayatou was welcomed by the association Acting Secretary General, Markus Kattner, and addressed staff before spending the rest of the day in his office.
It said that Hayatou would stay in Zurich until next week and chair an emergency executive committee meeting on October 20.
“It’s certainly an unprecedented situation for FIFA,” the statement quoted Hayatou as saying in reaction to Blatter’s 90-day suspension last week by FIFA’s Ethics Committee.
The committee handed down the suspension after Swiss authorities launched criminal investigation against him on suspicion of mismanagement.

“But we remain focused on the necessary reform process, the Presidential election and on supporting the current investigations.

“To restore public trust is a crucial objective; it is essential that FIFA carries on its mission of developing the game and staging international tournaments,” the statement quoted Hayatou as saying.

Blatter and UEFA president Michel Platini were slammed with 90-day suspension following allegation of corrupt practices.
