NollywoodThe Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) on Tuesday decried the high rate of indecency in the Nollywood film industry.

It also sued for peace among Nigerians in the face of daunting insecurity challenges bedevilling the country.

This is contained a communiqué jointly signed by the National Chairman, Agility Onwurah, and the Secretary, Samuel Onibiyo, and made available to newsmen in Abuja.

The communiqué was issued at the 5th AGN National Chairmen’s Conference.

The guild decried the high rate of indecency in the industry, adding that it was no longer comfortable to be perceived as ill-mannered people.

“As practitioners, we have chosen to not only let the society see beyond the micro view of ill-conceiving us as indecently dressed and uneducated, but to see us as role models.

“We have x-rayed the crisis rocking the Guild for some time now and have decided to put an end to it because it impedes the progress of Nollywood practitioners and directly tearing it apart.’’

It also called on the citizenry to come together and ensure that peace reigned, adding that this was the only way out of the present political and economic logjam the country was facing.

The Guild also appealed to the striking members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) and their polytechnics counterparts (ASUP) to embrace dialogue.

The statement called for the restoration of sanity in the country’s higher education system.
