Iran has emerged as the country with the highest volume of newly discovered natural gas resources since 2025, following major discoveries at two strategic gas fields in the country.

According to a report by TV BRICS, discoveries at the Takht and Pazan gas fields have added an estimated 17.5 trillion cubic feet (tcf) of gas resources to Iran’s reserves.

The discovery places Iran ahead of other countries in terms of newly identified gas volumes recorded during the period.

Takht and Pazan Fields Drive Major Discovery

The largest contribution comes from the Takht gas field, located in southern Fars Province.

The field is estimated to contain about 7.5 trillion cubic feet of gas in place, with approximately 5.5 trillion cubic feet considered recoverable.

The Pazan gas field also contributed significantly to Iran’s latest energy discovery figures.

Iran Plans Wider Exploration Campaign

Iranian authorities said the latest discoveries have encouraged plans to expand exploration activities across the country.

Officials indicated that future exploration efforts will focus on areas including northern, north-western and north-eastern Iran.

The government hopes expanded exploration will help identify additional hydrocarbon resources and strengthen the country’s long-term energy capacity.

Energy Importance of Gas Discoveries

Natural gas remains a central part of Iran’s energy sector, with the country holding some of the world’s largest known gas reserves.

The new discoveries could strengthen Iran’s position in global energy discussions, particularly as countries continue seeking reliable energy supplies.

However, converting discovered resources into commercial production depends on factors including investment, infrastructure development, technology and international market conditions.
