Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that he was confident his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, would win the governorship election but had concerns that the process could be manipulated.
Davido made the disclosure during a press conference on Tuesday in Ede, Osun State, where he spoke about the election, the governor’s victory and plans for youth development in the state.
The singer said the election was a difficult contest, but credited the support of Osun residents for helping Governor Adeleke overcome what he described as intimidation and pressure during the campaign period.
Davido Credits Voters for Adeleke’s Victory
Davido said he believed the people’s support played a major role in the outcome of the election.
He claimed that there were attempts to influence the process through intimidation and vote-buying, but said voters remained determined to defend their choice.
“They worked against him with vote-buying and intimidation, but he won,” Davido said.
He recalled that some people had expressed doubts about Adeleke’s chances before the election.
“Someone called me before the election and said it would take only a miracle for us to win, but we eventually won,” he added.
Singer Urges Adeleke to Deliver Good Governance
Davido said the governor’s re-election should serve as a reminder to political leaders that public support is earned through service and performance.
According to him, leaders who work genuinely for citizens are more likely to receive their backing during elections.
“This victory is a lesson that if you work well for the people, they will work for you, no matter what,” he said.
The singer also appreciated Osun voters who participated in the election and protected their votes from polling units through the collation process.
He thanked residents for standing behind the Adeleke family and supporting the governor’s return to office.
Davido Highlights Sports Development Plans
Beyond politics, Davido spoke about his plans as Chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund, saying he would support efforts to complete ongoing sports projects in the state.
He announced plans to develop recreational facilities for young people, including football fields, swimming pools, basketball courts and athletics facilities.
The singer also disclosed plans for a concert centre and expressed hope that the stadium project would be completed by December.
“I will hold a concert there,” he said.
Davido, however, stated that he had no political ambition in Osun State.
Calls for Forgiveness After Election Tensions
The musician acknowledged that the election period was challenging for his family, but said forgiveness would be necessary for the progress of the state.
He said political disagreements should not prevent people from working together for Osun’s future.
“I know what the whole family went through before the election, so forgiving is very hard for me, but it is something we all have to do for the future of Osun,” he said.
