Dangote Petroleum Refinery has expended its production from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million.
This was disclosed on Sunday in Lagos by the President/Chairman of Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote.
With him at the press conference were billionaire businessman, Mr. Femi Otedola, and senior officials of Dangote Group.
Dangote expressed his appreciation to
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the Federal Government and security agencies for their continued support and commitment to Nigeria’s industrial growth.
He also thanked the president for the laudable policy of “ensuring domestic processing of all our crude and exporting only finished petroleum products”.
He commended the Federal Government for being instrumental in mediating recent disruptions at the refinery linked to union activities and sabotage attempts.
“We are expanding the Dangote Petroleum Refinery from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day. Upon completion, this will make it the largest refinery in the world, surpassing the Jamnagar Refinery in India.
“This expansion reflects our confidence in Nigeria’s future, our belief in Africa’s potential, and our commitment to building energy independence for our continent and the world.
“It also is about confidence in Nigeria, in Africa and in our capacity to shape our own energy future”.
On the expansion, Dangote said: “It is the dream of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for Nigeria to emerge as one of the major suppliers of petroleum products in the world. And with his strong backing through previously stated policies, we are taking on the challenge to make this happen”.
On the increment, he said it was a response to rising regional demand and reduces import dependence.
*Saves billions in foreign exchange and strengthens Nigeria’s energy security.
*With this expansion, we would require 65,000 workers during construction and such a project will further unlock opportunities for local industries
*Reinforces Africa’s capability to build and manage world-class infrastructure.
“We will also be expanding our Polypropylene production from 900,000 metric tonne to 2.4 mm metric tonne per annum and this will further enrich the production of linear alkylbenzene, a key ingredient for the production of detergent, and additional production of base oils,
“With this expansion, the refinery transitions from producing Euro V to Euro VI fuel standards, meeting the highest global environmental benchmarks.
“Expands power generation capacity, ensuring full operational self-sufficiency”.
On sustainability and local content, he said “over 85% of our workforce will be Nigerian, with ongoing investment in skills and technology transfer. We remain committed to safety, sustainability and local participation at every stage of this expansion.
“Our goal has never been just to refine oil, but to refine opportunities for our people”
On future plans, Dangote said “within the next year, we plan to list 10% of Dangote Refinery and Petrochemical complex shares on the Nigerian Stock Exchange — a step toward broader ownership and market transparency. Therefore we call on all Nigerians to seize this window, to benefit from this golden opportunity.
“Our long-term goal remains clear: to build Africa’s leading integrated energy and petrochemical hub the first of its kind on the continent.
“As we approach the end of the year, Nigerians often face fuel shortages, long queues, and arbitrary price increases that cause great hardship for travellers and businesses alike.
“In the last three days, we have witnessed an 8% spike in global oil price.
“I want to assure Nigerians that the Dangote Refinery is fully committed to maintaining an uninterrupted supply of petrol throughout the festive period.
“Our goal is to ensure consistent product flow at stable prices, eliminating the disruptions and exploitation that have become common during the ember months.
“For the first time in many years, Nigerians can look forward to a festive season free of fuel anxiety.
“Again, I want to thank Mr. President for his continued support for the downstream sector which has unlocked and fast-tracked our decision to make this colossal investment.
“I want to also thank the Federal Government, Lagos state Government, our host community in Lekki, our financial partners, and our dedicated workforce for making this vision a reality.
“This expansion is not just about increasing capacity — it’s about confidence in our people, our country, and our continent.
“Together, we are building a stronger Nigeria and redefining what is possible for Africa.

“I call on the holders of the other 30 refinery licences, to seize this opportunity to support Mr. President’s dream of making Nigeria the refining hub on the continent.
