bamanga_tukurThe Acting National Publicity Secretary of PDP, Mr Tony Okeke, said court’s ruling of July 25 did not affect the party`s National Chairman, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur in any way.

He made the clarification in a statement issued in Abuja on Saturday, stressing that the ruling did not also affect the functions of the party`s National Working Committee (NWC).

According to the statement, the party`s officials that were affected by the ruling had since resigned.

“Since the court ruling, there had been several interpretations regarding the implication of the judicial pronouncement on the status of the party`s NWC.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the court ruled that the PDP refrains from proceeding with the conduct of the Special National Convention pending the determination of the suit filed by some aggrieved party members.’’

The aggrieved members are challenging the mode of election of some national officers of the party in its 2012 National Convention.

This followed INEC report which questioned the process of the election of the national officers at that convention.

“In line with the principle of justice, the court turned down the prayer by the plaintiffs for an interlocutory injunction nullifying the appointment of acting members of the NWC.

“The court also threw out the prayer requesting it to restrain the party`s National Chairman, Tukur, from performing his roles in the NWC until the determination of the suit’’, the statement noted.

It, therefore, assured that the leadership of the party and the functions of the NWC were in no way affected by the ruling.

“The ruling did not in any way affect the office of the national chairman or those of the acting national officers of our great party.

“Our lawyers are studying the ruling and will advise the party leadership on the next course of action’’, said the statement.

It urged party members to remain calm, adding that it would come out of its challenges stronger than ever and better prepared for victory in the 2015 general elections.
