Scores of protesters converged at Beira Me beach, almost opposite the Nigeria hotel in Fortaleza, but were kept at bay by police.
The protesters, part of a growing movement spreading across Brazil, said that they were part of the larger group which had grown frustrated at their government’s inability to provide basic services.
This group, who claim to be prosecutors, say they are marching to stop the Congress from passing a bill that would make investigating the government almost impossible.
“If that law is passed the government will become more corrupt because we can’t investigate them effectively anymore. Voting on the bill will be on Wednesday. We cannot afford to allow them to pass that bill.”
As the protesters gathered, so did the police heavily armed, in combat gear and looking battle ready.
The Nigerian players had to sneak out the back way to get to training.
