FAAN: Despite attack, we won’t shut Kaduna Airport

FAAN

FAAN_logoDAYS after a stowaway boy successfully hid in the tyre compartment of an Arik aircraft from Benin to Lagos, another airport trespasser, Leroy Ugaga, has been arrested at the Benin Airport, Edo State.

The 25-year-old Ugaga, who wanted to gain access to the airside of the Benin Airport, was arrested on Monday by a joint patrol team of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN)’s Aviation Security Services (AVSEC) and the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).

In a statement, General Manager, Corporate Communication FAAN, Mr. Yakubu Dati, said the suspected trespasser was sighted and observed for a few minutes by members of the patrol team as he attempted to gain entry to the airside and as soon as his intentions became clearer , he was apprehended and handed over to the Police for further interrogation.

A joint perimeter patrol by FAAN’s security staff and men of Nigerian Air Force at the Benin Airport is one of the additional security measures taken by the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria to forestall runway incursions at all Nigerian airports, following the stowaway incident that occurred at the Benin Airport on August 24, 2013.

“The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria hereby appeals to all members of the public, especially youths, to avoid the risk of attempting to gain unauthorized entry into restricted areas of airports, across the country, as doing is now extremely dangerous.

“Trespassers are likely to be severely dealt with if the security patrols have cause to suspect violent intentions,” the statement said.
