The Commissioner of Police (CP) in Abia, Mustapha Bala, on Thursday decorated seven officers of the command with their new ranks.
The list of the officers included the command’s Spokesman, Geoffrey Ogbonna, who was promoted from Superintendent of Police to Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP).
In a brief speech at the event held at the Police Officers’ Mess, Umuahia, Bala said that the promotion was the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Alkali Baba’s way of appreciating their sterling performance during the General Elections in the state.
He said that the IGP was very impressed with their performance, which made the exercise very successful with minor electoral cases in the state.

Bala admonished them to justify their new ranks by doubling their efforts in the discharge of their duties.

He also charged them to use their new positions to settle disputes, manage crisis and solve problems.
He said: “To whom much is given, much is expected.
“The promotion is given as a moral booster and should encourage you to perform better in your service to the police.
“It will encourage you to double your efforts in securing lives and property of the people and the environment.”
Bala further advised them to take their promotion as a thing of pride and to remain good ambassadors of the Police Force, wherever they found themselves.
He advised those who did not benefit from the promotion to exercise patience, believing that their time would come.
“Promotion comes from God.
“All of you would be promoted as and when due,” the state police boss said.
The Divisional Police Officer in charge of Ubakala, Kingsley Nwoke, who was promoted from CSP to Assistant Commissioner of Police, responded on behalf of other promoted officers.
He expressed gratitude to God, the CP, IGP and other officers and men of the command for their respective roles in making their promotion a reality.
