30 killed, 83 cows slaughtered in herdsmen, Agatu gunmen clash in Nasarawa

More corpses were recovered on Monday around the scene of Fulani herdsmen and Agatu gunmen clash in Adayi, Loko area of Nasarawa State.
A source disclosed to Freedom Online that the casualty figure has risen to 30.
He said: “More corpses have been recovered within and around the scene”.
The incident happened on Saturday.
No fewer than 83 cows were also slaughtered.
A visit to Adayi on Monday showed that the place has been deserted as security agents have taken over to restore peace.
The Fulani leader in Loko, Mallam Bideri Ahmadu, alleged that the attack was carried out by Agatu men from Benue State.
The traditional ruler of Loko, Alhaji Abubakar Ahmed Sabo, also accused Agatu youths of being behind the killings.
Ahmadu alleged that the Agatu youths crossed over from Benue State about 10:30 am on Saturday and started shooting
sporadically, killing 83 cows.
Fulani herdsmen also replied fire but many of them were killed.
Ahmadu said: “The Agatu youths intended to rustle
the cows in their boats across the river Benue but rattled by gunshots, the cattle went berserk.
“The Agatu youths opened fire on the cows, killing 83 instantly while others that sustained bullet wounds are bleeding in the bush”.
Sabo lamented that 20 men were killed in the attack.
“As a border town which records frequent attacks from Agatu youths, we only have two police officers with no rifle. We only get assistance from soldiers stationed at the bridge construction site at Oweto to repel attacks”.
He warned the Fulani against retaliation, saying government has waded into the matter and any act of retaliation would not be condoned.
