The Early Childhood and Basic Education Instructors in Nigeria (ECBEIN) has called on the Federal Government to intensify efforts for the immediate rescue of schoolchildren and teachers recently abducted from schools in Oyo State.
Dr. Sunday Fowowe, National President of ECBEIN, described the abductions as a direct assault on Nigeria’s education system and a threat to the nation’s future.
“This is not an isolated incident. Classrooms, once safe spaces for learning and growth, have become sites of fear and uncertainty,” Dr. Fowowe said in a statement on Thursday.
He urged President Bola Tinubu, Governor Seyi Makinde, and heads of security agencies to treat the abductions as a national emergency, deploying intelligence-led strategies and all available operational, technological, and tactical resources to secure the unconditional release of victims.
Dr. Fowowe emphasized that perpetrators must face swift and impartial prosecution to deter future attacks. “The safety of Nigerian children and adolescents must never be negotiable. Education cannot thrive in fear,” he stated.
ECBEIN also pledged support to affected families and communities, promising to assist in strengthening school safety frameworks and child protection policies nationwide.
