Why Nigerians must join UPN, by Fasehun

fredrick_fasehun2National Chairman of the resuscitated Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), Dr. Frederick Fasehun, has given reasons Nigerians must joint the party.

To the medical doctor-turned activist and politician, their membership of the party founded by the late Chief Obafemi Awolowo in the Second Republic would deepen democracy.

Fasehun made the call in a communique at the end of UPN’s inaugural National Executive Council meeting in Lagos, ahead of its registration by INEC.

He expressed the resolve of the association to reposition the country.

The document, which was signed by Mr Bari Salau, the UPN National Publicity Secretary, said that the formation of the proposed party was based on the progressive philosophy of the late Awolowo.

While describing Awolowo as the “best President Nigeria never had’’, the association pledged to return the country to its pro-people manifesto of providing free education, health services and water supply.

It also promised to provide employment opportunities and improved security, water supply, economy, agriculture, electricity and infrastructure to the people, if registered by INEC.

The communique added that delegates from 32 states and Abuja attended the meeting.

It also said delegates from Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states were absent because of the state of emergency imposed on the states by the Federal Government.

The meeting, it said, urged youths to save Nigeria from imminent collapse because the country’s “fortune is being plundered with impunity by politicians who do not feel responsible to the people’’.
