The Nigeria Police Force has initiated an investigation into allegations of misconduct involving officers attached to the Satellite Town Division in Lagos, following the circulation of a viral video on social media.
The update was provided by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Aliyu Giwa, via his official X (formerly Twitter) account on Saturday.
According to Giwa, the police authorities responded swiftly after the video surfaced online on April 4, shared by a user identified as Rhapstar, who accused officers of unprofessional conduct.
He explained that the Divisional Police Officer and the officers mentioned in the footage have been summoned for questioning as part of the inquiry.
Statements have been collected, and interviews conducted as investigators work to establish the full details of the incident.
Preliminary findings suggest the event captured in the video may have taken place as far back as May 2025, although authorities are still seeking testimonies from individuals directly affected.
Giwa stressed that the investigation is being handled transparently, dismissing any claims of a cover-up.
“This process reflects accountability and our commitment to due process,” he said.
He reiterated that the leadership of the Nigeria Police remains committed to enforcing discipline and ensuring adherence to the rule of law across all commands.
The spokesperson emphasized that no officer is immune from scrutiny, regardless of when an alleged offence occurred.
Giwa also acknowledged the role of public engagement in bringing the matter to light, noting that citizens’ voices are essential in strengthening accountability.
The viral video reportedly shows officers stopping a vehicle, asking occupants to step out, and conducting a search on one individual away from the vehicle.
The footage has sparked widespread public concern, particularly over allegations of harassment during routine stop-and-search operations in Lagos.
