Vice President Kashim Shettima has commenced a two-week official leave approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, marking the first time he has taken leave since assuming office on May 29, 2023.

The announcement was made in Abuja on Thursday by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Communications, Stanley Nkwocha.

According to the presidential aide, the leave is intended to give the vice president time for study, reflection and personal development to further enhance his leadership capacity.

Nkwocha said the period would also allow Shettima to evaluate the administration’s ongoing programmes and review key policy priorities as the Federal Government continues implementing its Renewed Hope Agenda.

He explained that the leave would provide an opportunity for the vice president to broaden his understanding of emerging national and global policy issues, strengthening his preparedness for future responsibilities.

The statement noted that since taking office in May 2023, Shettima has remained actively involved in coordinating and supervising several strategic government initiatives across different sectors.

Nkwocha highlighted the vice president’s contributions to economic development, food security, humanitarian programmes, digital transformation, job creation and regional cooperation.

He also pointed to Shettima’s role as Chairman of the National Economic Council (NEC), where he leads discussions involving the governors of Nigeria’s 36 states, the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other senior government officials on economic and development policies.

Beyond his domestic responsibilities, the statement said Shettima has represented President Tinubu at major regional and international engagements, promoting Nigeria’s interests in investment, economic integration, climate action, peace, security and sustainable development.

Nkwocha added that the vice president has remained committed to supporting President Tinubu’s vision of building a safer, more productive and prosperous Nigeria through dedicated public service.

He disclosed that Shettima will return to his official duties after the two-week leave and continue his responsibilities with renewed energy and commitment.
