UNIPORT gets V-C, Chancellor

University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), Port Harcourt, Rivers State, has announced the appointment of Prof. Ndowa Lale as its Vice-Chancellor.
The announcement is contained in a statement issued by the institution’s Deputy Registrar (Information), Dr Williams Wodi, on Monday in Port Harcourt.
The statement quoted Wodi as stating that Lale would officially assume office on July 13 from incumbent on July 13.
He said: “The new Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ndowa Lale, who shall hold office for a single tenure of five years, is expected to assume office on Monday, July 13, when the tenure of the incumbent, Prof. Joseph Ajienka, will end.
“Prof. Ndowa Sunday Lale emerged as Vice-Chancellor following intensive interview process of candidates by the Senate Selection Panel set up by the university’s Governing Council.’’
Lale, 59, an indigene of Ebubu in Eleme Local Government area of Rivers State is a seasoned administrator and scholar who had published several peer-reviewed journals, locally and internationally.
The statement also announced the appointment of Major-General Muhammadu Bashar (rtd), the Emir of Gwandu in Kebbi, as the institution’s new Chancellor by the Federal Ministry of Education.
It stated that Bashar takes over from HRH, De Wheno Meno Toyi I (Akran of Badagry), as the institution’s third Chancellor.
