Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State on Monday advised aspirants for the seat of Speaker, House of Representatives, to be pragmatic and mature in their campaigns.
Tambuwal, the immediate past speaker of the Lower House of the National Assembly, gave the advice in Sokoto when one of the aspirants, Mr Yakubu Dogara, paid him a courtesy visit.
“Efforts should be made to reduce the current tension generated by the race as it is already high. The House should be made more stable to build on the legacies of the Seventh Assembly,” he said.
Tambuwal declared that although he has no preferred candidate, it was important to caution the members so as to reduce rancour.
The former speaker promised to ensure fair, transparent and open transition process at the House of Representatives.
“Continuity is very important and the two groups need each other.
“Efforts should be done to de-emphasize and turn down anything that may promote rancour and hatred.
“I will try my best and carry everybody along. I will assemble the best to give the people of sokoto state the best,” Tambuwal assured.
Earlier, Dogara said that the visit was to felicitate with the governor as a “leader and former colleague.”
“We are the products of your mentoring and we are here for your blessings and guidance.
“The annals of history will never forget you due to the invaluable sacrifices you had made for the nation.
“These myriad of sacrifices had helped greatly in bringing the current change in Nigeria and we will sustain your indelible legacies,” he said.
