The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Kabiru Turaki on Friday formally inaugurated newly elected State, Local Government Area (LGA), and Ward Executive Committees in Lagos State.

The ceremony, which took place at the party’s secretariat in Ikeja, attracted national and zonal party officials, elders, and members from across the South-West.

Representing the National Chairman, the PDP’s Deputy National Organising Secretary, Dr. Sunday Solarin, urged the newly sworn-in executives to focus on rebuilding and strengthening the party’s grassroots structure. He expressed confidence that despite internal challenges, the PDP remains a formidable political force that cannot be dismantled.

Solarin described the turnout at the event as a sign that the party is still vibrant. He encouraged members to remain steadfast, insisting that current turbulence within the party is temporary and that brighter days lie ahead.

Also addressing attendees, party stalwart Bode George reaffirmed his belief that the PDP remains Nigeria’s only truly national political platform. He referenced the party’s 2025 national convention in Ibadan as a turning point, describing it as a renewal of hope and unity within the party.

George praised the newly inaugurated Lagos State executives, led by Dr. Amos Fawole, describing them as credible leaders worthy of support. He maintained that the party would not allow internal or external forces to weaken its structure.

Commenting on recent defections to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), George alleged that some PDP governors and lawmakers were pressured into leaving. However, he insisted that the PDP remains resilient and positioned for a comeback in the 2027 general elections.

He also cautioned the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to ensure fairness and transparency in future elections, stressing that party leadership decisions must remain internal matters.

Former Lagos State Deputy Governor, Kofoworola Bucknor-Akerele, along with other party elders, encouraged members to stay committed, assuring them that the PDP remains strong despite recent setbacks.

Speaking on behalf of the outgoing leadership, former Lagos PDP Chairman, Mr. Phillip Aivoji, commended party stakeholders for their dedication and called for unity moving forward.

In his acceptance remarks, the new Lagos State PDP Chairman, Dr. Amos Fawole, pledged to provide purposeful leadership aimed at repositioning the party for electoral success. He emphasized that with collective effort and grassroots mobilization, Lagos State remains winnable for the PDP.

The event also drew attendance from South-West PDP chairmen, including representatives from Ondo and Ekiti States.

The inauguration marks a fresh chapter for the PDP in Lagos as it prepares for the 2027 general elections.
