U.S. President Donald Trump has said that Iran will not be allowed to develop or possess nuclear weapons under a new agreement reached with the Middle Eastern country.

Trump made the statement on Tuesday while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the G7 summit in Evian, France.

“We have our deal done with Iran. It should be successful,” Trump said.

He added that the agreement would proceed to a second phase, which he described as likely to be “easier” to implement.

“It goes to a second stage, which I think will be easier,” he said.

The U.S. president also commented on regional tensions, stating that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu must act more responsibly regarding the situation in Lebanon.

The G7 summit began on Monday in Evian, a town located on the shores of Lake Geneva in eastern France.

The three-day meeting is expected to focus on major global issues, including the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, tensions in the Middle East, and the rapid development of artificial intelligence.
