Security forces in Nigeria’s South-East have arrested a suspected member of the Indigenous People of Biafra and its armed wing, the Eastern Security Network, during a clearance operation in Imo State.
The operation was carried out by troops of the 82 Division Nigerian Army alongside the Joint Task Force South East.
According to an operational update, the suspect—identified as Onyebuchi Dara, aged 28—was apprehended at Ehioma Junction.
Security sources said the arrest followed credible intelligence linking him to earlier attacks on security personnel in the region
The suspect is believed to be from Etinasa community in Orsu Local Government Area.
Preliminary findings suggest the suspect may have been connected to past violent incidents, including an attack that led to the deaths of two security personnel in 2022.
Authorities confirmed that investigations are ongoing to uncover additional collaborators and dismantle suspected criminal networks operating in the area.
In a related development, troops conducting operations along the Akwu–Udah axis discovered multiple improvised explosive devices (IEDs) in a previously abandoned location.
Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) specialists successfully defused the devices, preventing potential casualties among civilians and security personnel.
Security operatives also recovered military-style uniforms, boots, and other items believed to be used by criminal elements for impersonation and operational activities.
Officials say such tactics are commonly used to deceive civilians and evade detection.
The military confirmed that operations in the region remain active, with a focus on weakening armed groups and restoring stability.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to maintaining security and protecting residents in the South-East.
