The Tin Can Island Port 2 Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NSC), Ijora, Lagos State, on Monday said it generated about N3.2 billion from January to June.
A statement by the command in Lagos said the bulk of the revenue was generated from the Free Trade Zone (FTZ) revenue source.
It quoted the command`s Controller, Alhaji Dalhat Abdulkadir, as saying that N1.5 billion was generated in May alone, making it the month with the highest revenue .
The controller said though the total figure was a far cry from the over N7 billion targeted for the period, it was not a bad result considering the substantial drop in imports occasioned by foreign exchange scarcity.
Abdulkadir, however, said the command was working hard to rise above its challenges by devising creative ways of boosting its revenue.
“We are engaging our stakeholders on the need to collaborate with us to boost efficiency and improve revenue.
“We are also doing our best to block leakages and ensure all monies due to government are remitted,” he said.
He added the recent change of the command`s name from Lilypond Area Command to Tin Can Island Port 2 command was a strategic step to reposition it as the preferred terminal for cargoes.
He expressed optimism that the rebranding would enhance the marketability of the command and ultimately help to improve its revenue profile.
