Sixteen-year-old Max Dowman became the youngest scorer in English Premier League (EPL) history, sealing a late victory for Arsenal over Everton to move 10 points clear at the top.

Dowman struck in stoppage time after Arsenal substitute, Viktor Gyokeres, had put the Gunners ahead in the 89th minute following a cross from the teenage midfielder.

Everton had looked set to secure a hard-fought draw before Gyokeres tapped in after goalkeeper Jordan Pickford misjudged Dowman’s delivery into the box.

The visitors pushed forward in search of an equaliser and won a stoppage-time corner, with Pickford joining the attack.

However, with Pickford stranded upfield, Dowman beat two defenders and calmly rolled the ball into an empty net, sparking celebrations at Emirates Stadium.

Dowman, aged 16 years and 73 days, broke the Premier League record for the youngest scorer previously held by Everton’s James Vaughan since 2005.

Everton had earlier threatened to take the lead in the first half through Dwight McNeil.

McNeil was denied by a superb block from Riccardo Calafiori before later striking the post with a curling effort from the edge of the area.

Arsenal also appealed for a penalty after Michael Keane and Kai Havertz tangled inside the area in the first half, but the claim was waved away.

The result leaves Arsenal 10 points ahead of second-placed Manchester City, although the Gunners have played two games more.
