Former Nigerian Head of State, Yakubu Gowon, has commended the economic policies and governance efforts of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging Nigerians to support the administration as it tackles the country’s major challenges.

Gowon made the remarks on Saturday after a private meeting with the President at the Presidential Villa, Abuja in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja.

Speaking with journalists after the meeting, the former military leader said his visit was mainly to appreciate the President for what he described as ongoing efforts to improve Nigeria’s economic situation and national development.

According to him, the discussion with the President covered the country’s current economic progress and other national matters under the present administration.

Gowon noted that the government was working across several sectors, including political, economic and social areas, to address issues affecting the nation.

He stressed that managing a diverse country like Nigeria requires balancing different priorities while ensuring the overall stability and unity of the nation.

The elder statesman also acknowledged that insecurity remains a major concern for the country, noting that tackling such challenges requires coordinated action from government and security agencies.

He expressed confidence that the administration is making efforts to manage the situation responsibly while working toward lasting peace and stability.

Gowon further urged citizens to remain supportive of government initiatives, stating that national progress requires cooperation between leadership and the public.
