SuperSport, DStv unveil plans for bumper football season

SuperSport logoSuperSport, premium sports content provider on DStv, has concluded plans to broadcast over 1,500 top-flight live football matches from across the best leagues in the world to Nigerians in the new football season, which starts this weekend. He disclosed this exciting new package for the new season at a media event held at the SWAN Secretariat, National Stadium, Lagos.

Felix Awogu, General Manager, SuperSport West Africa, said, “MultiChoice and SuperSport have always brought the best of sports to Nigerians. We assure that our subscribers will continue to enjoy the best of local and international action on SuperSport channels on Dstv as another season kicks off.” He added that though there is excitement about the array of European leagues on parade, one of SuperSport’s main objectives is to assist the Nigerian football league become the biggest in Africa and one that can compare favourably with the best leagues in the world.

 

“To achieve this, we have consistently lent our support to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) and Nigeria Sports Commission (NSC) through training of sports administrators. In the recent past, we have taken club managers and sports editors to Germany to understudy the German Bundesliga, which is arguably the best-managed league in the world, and evolve a policy for the growth and development of our own league,” he further explained.

Awogu added that soccer-loving fans in Nigeria will watch their favourite players live from the comfort of their homes, as matches from the Barclays Premier League, German Bundesliga, French Ligue One, Italian Serie A, Spanish La Liga, Portuguese Primera Liga, American Major League Soccer, as well as Nigeria’s Globacom Premier League, South African Absa League, among others, will be screened to them week in, week out.

Martin Mabutho, General Manager, Sales and Marketing, MultiChoice Nigeria, said DStv subscribers will enjoy more than football on SuperSport. “Other sports will equally be given prominence as it has become SuperSport’s tradition. Boxing, Basketball, Golf, Tennis, and many otherswill equally be screened to sports fans across the country.

Whatever your sporting interest is, SuperSport is sure to satisfy it through the acquisition and broadcast of relevant sporting programmes, and at no extra cost to you.”

He said DStv subscribers who maintain their subscription for one year without any interruption will have a chance to be selected to watch any derby in some of the leagues that are on offer on SuperSport, including football leagues in other African countries. Seven lucky couples will benefit from the promo.

Highlight of the media conference to usher in the new football season for 2013/2014 was the 15-minute SuperSport quiz for over 40 journalists who attended the briefing. The quiz tested the journalists’ general knowledge of football. Wale Adebayo of Wavemarv Media scored 15 out of 20 points to pick the first prize, a Dstv decoder with one month premium subscription. Bunmi Ogunyale of Soccer Star, Anthony Bekederemo of Brilla FM and Adeyinka Adebayo of Eko FM tied at 13.5 points and were awarded first runner-up, second runner-up and third runner-up, respectively. They went home with DStv Walka 7, GOtv decoder plus three months subscription and Walka 3.5 in that

order.
