Nigeria’s Super Falcons began their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) with a 2-1 victory over Senegal in a friendly match at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne-Remo, Ogun State on Friday.

Veteran striker Asisat Oshoala opened the scoring from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute, marking her return to the national team after the WAFCON 2024 final. The Super Falcons dominated possession and controlled the pace of the first half.

Just before halftime, Toni Payne doubled Nigeria’s lead in the 43rd minute, converting a well-coordinated attacking move. Payne also made her first appearance since WAFCON 2024, reinforcing the team’s firepower.

Senegal’s Teranga Lionesses pulled a goal back in the 86th minute, setting up a tense finish. Despite the late surge, the Super Falcons remained disciplined and held on for the win.

This match marked the **first-ever encounter** between the Super Falcons and Senegal’s Teranga Lionesses. Both teams will face off again in a second friendly at the same venue on Monday, using the fixtures to finalize preparations for WAFCON 2026 in Morocco, where Nigeria aims to defend its title.
