The Nigerian Army has revised its security arrangements along vulnerable communities bordering Sokoto and Kebbi states in an effort to prevent terrorist infiltration and protect residents.
The General Officer Commanding (GOC), 8 Division, Nigerian Army, Maj.-Gen. Bemgha Koughna, announced the measures during an operational assessment of a Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Kebbe Local Government Area of Sokoto State.
His visit followed reports of a renewed attack on Ungushi community in the area.
Army Reviews Security Deployment
Koughna said the Army was taking proactive measures to address emerging threats and strengthen protection for communities along the border.
He said the revised security architecture was designed to prevent terrorist groups from exploiting vulnerable areas between Sokoto and Kebbi.
“The Nigerian Army has proactively readjusted its security architecture to prevent further terrorist infiltration and secure vulnerable border communities,” he said.
The GOC said troops remained deployed and alert across the affected areas.
Koughna Meets Communities
During the visit, Koughna met community leaders and residents to hear their concerns and assess the security situation directly.
He reassured residents that the military remained focused on protecting lives and property and would respond quickly to emerging threats.
The GOC also said terrorist elements would not be allowed to establish permanent safe havens in the region.
He urged residents to remain calm and continue with their legitimate activities while security personnel maintained their presence across the area.
Army Seeks Actionable Intelligence
Koughna called on residents to strengthen cooperation with security agencies by reporting suspicious movements and activities.
He stressed that timely and credible information from local communities could help security forces detect threats before they develop into attacks.
According to him, community cooperation is particularly important in identifying, disrupting and dismantling terrorist networks operating or attempting to establish a presence in vulnerable areas.
Security Forces on Alert
The Army’s latest measures come amid concerns over renewed attacks affecting communities in parts of Sokoto State.
Koughna said the military would continue to assess the situation and adjust its deployment where necessary.
He assured residents that troops were firmly on the ground and committed to maintaining security along the Sokoto-Kebbi border corridor.
The Army also urged residents to remain vigilant and work closely with security personnel as operations continue.
